Pinging
When you publish a new post on your blog, the blogging software you use can send out a ping. A ping is a short message that gets sent to the major blogging search engines and directories that lets them know you have a new live post. Once you get your pinging set up, this can be a very effective way to generate traffic to your site without requiring any additional work.
Your blogging host or blogging software may include a tab for setting up automatic pinging. You also can use online pinging services to accomplish the same task. My favorite online pinging service is Ping-O-Matic. This is an awesome free service. You just select which directories and engines you want to ping to, then click ping. You can return daily to the site and it will automatically ping to your chosen options.
